Community Notice: Hydrant Flushing

Thursday, May 9, 2024 – Starting Monday, May 13, 2024, the Public Works Department will be doing their semi-annual Hydrant Flushing.

  • Residents connected to the water system can expect low pressure periods and possible water discoloration during the week while hydrants are flushed.
  • If you experience water discoloration, run your cold water tap for 3-5 mins. If discoloration persists, wait about 30 mins., then run the water again.
  • This temporary discoloration only affects the appearance of the water – it does not cause health or safety risks.
  • Hydrant flushing is part of our preventative maintenance program to ensure proper hydrant function in the case of an emergency (e.g. fire).
  • Hydrant flushing also maintains the quality of the water provided to residents by removing naturally accumulating sediment from the water pipes.
