Nbisiing Dewegan – Big Drum Social 🥁
“The Heartbeat of Nipissing First Nation is in our Drum”
For NFN Members and Affiliates
Throughout the summer, the Culture & Heritage Department will be hosting a weekly Big Drum Social—an open invitation for all NFN members and affiliates to come together, learn, and reconnect with our living culture.
We’re calling on our drummers, singers, dancers, Elders, and community members. This is a great opportunity to practice drumming, singing, and dancing before powwow season begins—or even if you’re just starting your journey into powwow.
At the center is the big drum, surrounded by singers, back-up singers, and layers of circles where each of us finds our place—whether it’s dancing, helping, learning, or simply being present. Together, we are strengthening our community, embracing our culture, teaching our children, and honoring the knowledge and wisdom of our Elders.
This space was created by drawing on the strength and teachings of our people—to rebuild connections, support one another, and lay a foundation for future generations.
Leads:
Big Drum – Blair Beaucage & Zack Beaudette
Back-Up Singers – Mindy Goulais
Dancers & Regalia – Brooklyn Sawyer
Circle of Community & Elders – Rodney Commanda & Ken Hazel
✨ Don’t be afraid to connect with our leads—they are here to share their gifts, knowledge, and experience. Ask questions, learn, and grow together. This is the place to learn.
If you want to learn the big drum, there is a place for you.
If you want to be a back-up singer, there is a place for you.
If you want to dance and learn about regalia, there is a place for you.
If you want to support in any way, there is a place for you. And if you simply want to be present and take it all in—there is a place for you too.
❤️ Come out and be part of something special—a fresh start for all of us.
A place to rebuild relationships, strengthen our community, and create a better future for the generations to come.
It starts here… Wednesday nights at the Big Drum Social.
