Wednesday, October 16, 2024 – The Nipissing First Nation Soil Remediation Project addresses the decades-long aftermath of a niobium ore processing mill on Nipissing First Nation land. NFN Chief Cathy Bellefeuille-Stevens and Councillor Joan McLeod Shabogesic had the chance to share NFN’s side of the story in an interview with Aya Dufour of the CBC. They speak candidly about the polluted soil that has disturbed the land and residents for generations and NFN’s opportunity to clean the contaminated sites through this project.
In her article, Who will pay for Ontario’s radioactive past? Dufour provides a platform for NFN leadership to voice the truth about the realities and repercussions of the former Nova Beaucage mine and processing mill that operated on NFN in 1956.
