NFN Members & Affiliates are invited to join us for a Species at Risk Strategy Information Session!
Biologist Nikki Commanda, of NFN’s Natural Resources Department, invites you to a workshop dedicated to the care and protection of Species at Risk (SAR) within our territory, with a focus on the Midland Painted Turtle.
This session will bridge the gap between the Government of Canada’s Species at Risk (SAR) listing process and NFN’s inherent land sovereignty, as defined in our Gichi Naaknigewin and Land Code. The goal is to provide the resources and information required to inform future land-use decisions and collectively shape NFN’s Species at Risk (SAR) strategy.
Following this presentation, Scales Nature Park will provide a safe, guided opportunity to interact with native reptiles from our territory. We will learn about their biology and threats, and, for those who wish, gain firsthand experience handling them safely and respectfully.
To conclude our session, the Manager and Biologist from Magnetawan First Nation will join us to share insights and support our collective stewardship efforts.
Please come out and join us. The turtles and snakes look forward to meeting you!
