Nipissing First Nation has enacted a Non-Permanent Structure Law to regulate the use of trailers, tents, sheds, and similar structures used as temporary shelters on NFN lands.
A permit is required if a structure is used for more than 14 consecutive days in a calendar year, including for structures already in place before the law took effect. Use between November 30 and May 1 is prohibited unless specifically permitted. Non-permanent structures are not allowed on vacant land, and must comply with waste disposal, safety, and zoning regulations. Permits must be visibly displayed, and violations may result in fines up to $5,000.
