Hunters, trappers, animal and wildlife workers are encouraged to get vaccinated to reduce the risk of Avian flu A (H5N1) and limit virus spread. Respiratory illnesses can spread easily between people and animals, a seasonal flu vaccination protects you, the animals you work with, and the wider community. Although the 2025/2026 flu vaccine targets community-based strains, it can help reduce human-to-bird transmission that can lead to new strains.
Stay alert for signs of illness in animals and use proper precautions around sick or injured wildlife. Practice good hygiene to prevent the spread of illness.
For more information on seasonal flu vaccinations, reach out to your health care provider or the Lawrence Commanda Health Centre at 705-753-3312.
