The Ministry of Transportation has hired AECOM to do a preliminary Design and Class Environmental Assessment Study for a pilot project on Highway 11, between North Bay and Temagami. This study will look to create a 2+1 Roadway Model, which means adding a third lane in some areas to improve traffic flow. The project may affect NFN members’ activities during and after construction. The goal is to make the highway safer and improve traffic movement in two specific sections, shown on the key map.
Key proposed elements of the project include:
- Alternating passing lanes
- A center median barrier
- Turnarounds
- Realignment near Pan Lake
