NEW Breast Cancer Screening Guidelines
The province of Ontario has established new breast cancer screening guidelines that expand the age of eligibility for mammograms. While guidelines previously recommended mammograms for individuals between the ages of 50-74, they now recommend mammograms for those aged 40-74. Eligible individuals are recommended to get a mammogram once every two years.
If you are 30-69 years old and are confirmed to be high risk, the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) recommends that you receive a mammogram with an MRI or ultrasound every year. High-risk status is based on a family or medical history of breast cancer and must be confirmed by a doctor or genetic counsellor.
Booking a Mammogram
To book a mammogram, please contact your health care provider for a referral. If you do not have a health care provider, you may self-refer by calling Health811.
If you are over the age of 74, speak to your health care provider or dial 8-1-1 for more information about booking a mammogram. If you do not have a health care provider, you may book an appointment by calling 8-1-1 or contacting your nearest OBSP.
