Notice to Nipissing Nation Members and Residents: Enactment of Short Term Licensing Law (2024)

Friday, July 5, 2024 – The Nipissing First Nation Economic Development Department seeks to implement a law governing the licensing and regulation of short-term rentals on NFN lands. This initiative aims to manage these rentals effectively, protect NFN lands and resources for the benefit of all Debendaagziwaad.

Recent findings have revealed several unlicensed short-term rental units, highlighting the need for regulation. The proposed law provides a comprehensive framework to ensure all rentals operate safely and in compliance with NFN standards. It includes clear processes for licensing, inspections, and enforcement, supporting better management and oversight of short-term rentals. Approval of this law will foster sustainable development and economic growth within NFN.

You have until July 27, 2024 to submit comments or concerns in writing on the proposed law. These are to be addressed to Zack Lafleur at [email protected] or by mail to Nipissing First Nation, 36 Semo Road, Garden Village, ON P2B 3K2.

The law is scheduled to be tabled for enactment at the Council meeting of September 3, 2024.
