Coverage for drugs, dental and vision care, medical supplies and equipment, mental health counselling and medical transportation is available to registered members. The NIHB Coordinator can provide information on how to access these benefits and often acts as liaison between clients, services providers (pharmacies, physicians, etc.) and the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (Health Canada).
Long Distance Medical Transportation
When the need for medical services means travel away from NFN the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Coordinator is available assist registered members with prior approvals, make accommodations arrangements and prepare travel advances.
Local Medical Transportation
In accordance with the NIHB General Program Directive, NIHB Medical Transportation Directive, and the NIHB Medical Transportation Policy Framework local medical transportation services assist eligible clients with medical trips to North Bay, Sturgeon Falls and Sudbury. Regular hours and after hours services are available. Clients are asked to provide 48 hours’ notice when booking a medical trip.
